About SIAA
The Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA) is a Florida-based organization that provides a structured, competitive environment for independent high schools and preparatory basketball programs. Established in 2010, the SIAA is recognized as the most competitive basketball conference in the United States. The SIAA serves high-level programs while also supporting developing schools seeking strong, organized competition.
Created to meet the unique needs of prep and independent schools, the SIAA emphasizes competitive play, player development, exposure, strong community and flexibility for schools with nontraditional academic calendars and athletic models. The association operates all across Florida and, with at times, international participants such as programs from Puerto Rico. Its National division regularly features nationally ranked teams and challenging schedules for all divisions.
In addition to regular league competition, SIAA hosts annual events called Crossovers that bring member schools together to showcase all teams under one roof for great days of basketball and evaluation opportunities. These events are designed to highlight team success, promote sportsmanship, and provide student-athletes with meaningful, well-organized game experiences.
The SIAA is consistently implementing cutting edge rules and concepts often adopted by the rest of the country. By offering multiple competitive pathways under one unified structure, the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association plays an important role in Florida’s prep school basketball landscape, helping programs compete, grow, and prepare athletes for the next level, while also serving as the model for all governing bodies across the country.
